Fez
Fez is a central Pennsylvania scuba‐rock trio from State College, Pennsylvania, formed in 2022 by vocalist and drummer Xavier Hons and bassist Max Hill, and completed shortly after by guitarist Jimmy Connelly. The band quickly developed a reputation for high‐energy shows, sharp musicianship, and playful crowdwork across Pennsylvania and the East Coast.
The roots of Fez trace back to the founders’ stint in a punk group out of high school, followed by a deliberate pivot into slower, lo‐fi, cassette‐driven experiments. Early tracks like “Yelp” set the tone for a left‐turning creative process, while the December release of the punk B‐side “Fezmas” cracked open a heavier direction. With a January gig on the calendar, one playable song, and no guitarist, the band sprinted into a whirlwind of writing and lineup trials before locking in the present trio. Those sessions yielded the first wave of Fez songs, many seeded with inside jokes, and the standout “The Men in Black,” which spotlighted the need for a dedicated guitarist and cemented Connelly’s role. The trio’s pre‐existing high‐school ensemble connections helped catalyze the chemistry that now defines Fez on stage and in the studio.
