Centa Schumacher
Centa Schumacher is a Pittsburgh based artist working with photography, video, and textiles. Her lens-based practice examines the transformative power of scale and light, drawing from cosmology, deep space imagery, and western mystery traditions. She uses manipulations of the photographic process, including modified lenses, specialty filters, and double exposure, to create images that exist parallel to–but do not overlap with–objective reality.
Schumacher has had solo projects at the 707 Gallery, Silver Eye Center for Photography, and Bunker Projects in Pittsburgh, PA. Her work has also been featured nationally in group exhibitions at Paradice Palase in Brooklyn, NY, Aggregate Space in Oakland, CA, and Art Ark Gallery in San Jose, CA.
