In 2023, I moved to Northern Cyprus to teach in a Sound Design Department for two years. I started wondering about the relation my Turkish Cypriot students had with the windy landscape of their communities. This exploration opened a new approach to teaching organology, the study of musical instruments, their social function and significance. The presentation offers a glimpse into that approach and to the preliminary iterations of Impossible Crossings, a sound installation meant to bring movement and feelings to a solitary and somber sculpture that celebrates rural life in Northern Cyprus.
